T- Bar rows are excellent exercise to thicken your back muscle, if you don't have access to them then try doing deadlifts and most importantly barbell rows.
another alternative is a single hand barbell row with the smith machine.
Deadlifts don’t engage many back muscles, and the ones that they do such as the erector spinae or usually engaged as synergists or joint stabilizers. They also put excessive pressure on the lumbar vertebrae if form isn’t perfect, and if you’re feeling deadlifts in your back you should probably relearn how to do them. But yeah rows are very good.
here is a video demonstrating it!
