Heavy Duty Training – Day 2 of Gaining Muscle Mass

Quality Over Quantity: My First Heavy Duty

Upper Body Session The first day of my muscle-building phase wasn't about spending hours in the gym. It was about applying maximum intensity to a handful of carefully selected exercises. Inspired by the Heavy Duty philosophy, every movement had a purpose: stimulate muscle growth with hard, focused work rather than endless volume.

The Workout Log

 Chest Incline Smith Machine Bench Press – 4 × 8 (63.6 kg)
Incline Dumbbell Flyes – 4 × 8 (25 lb dumbbells)
Shoulders Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press – 4 × 8 (35 lb dumbbells)
Triceps Standing Dumbbell Triceps Extension – 4 × 8 (50 lb dumbbells) Triceps Pressdown – 4 × 8 (60 kg)

Why These Exercises?

I started with the incline press to prioritize the upper chest while allowing heavier loading on the Smith machine. This was followed by incline dumbbell flyes to stretch the chest fibres and increase muscle recruitment.

The standing dumbbell shoulder press challenged both shoulder strength and stability, while the triceps extension and pressdown attacked the triceps from different angles, helping build size and strength for stronger pressing movements.
Heavy Duty Principles
Although the log shows four working sets per exercise, the focus remained on intensity rather than simply accumulating volume. Every set was performed with controlled form, a full range of motion, and the goal of pushing close to muscular failure.

The key principles were:
Train with purpose.
Make every rep count.
Prioritize progressive overload.
Recover properly between sessions.

My Goal This session marks Day 1 of my muscle mass journey. Over the coming weeks, I'll track my workouts, nutrition, recovery, and physical progress as part of Project Shredded. Building muscle isn't about chasing the perfect workout—it's about showing up consistently, lifting with intent, and becoming stronger than you were yesterday. The journey has begun. Every rep, every meal, and every workout brings me one step closer to a stronger, more muscular physique. Stay tuned as I document the transformation, one training session at a time.
